Château Cantemerle sits in stunning parkland just to the North of the city of Bordeaux near the village of Macau and is named after the blackbirds that sang there; its 90 hectares of vine are planted on silica rich gravel, mostly Cabernet sauvignon with 27% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The vineyard is owned by the large Mutual Insurance Company Groupe SMA and they employ Eric Boissenot to look after the wines. The Grand Vin is fermented in concrete and large wooden Vats before aging in French oak barriques 355 new, after the final blending the spend further time in the large oak vats before bottling.
The 2012 is very aromatic and pretty and very approachable but has plenty for the long term too.
