The Demontre is a blend of old vine Grenache 80% and 20% Cariñena, has a dark cherry nose and palate with hints of wild herbs making this an interesting natural, savoury wine.
Celler La Gutina is owned by Joan Carles Torres and his wife Barbara and is set in the wild Aspres de l’Albera National Park in the northeast of Catalonia a few miles from the French border. Their organic vineyards sit between 90-100 m above sea level in small parcels amongst the scrub, Cork Oak groves, dolmens and menhirs. Some of their Grenache vines date back to the 1950’s when Joan’s father replanted his father vines destroyed by Phylloxera.
Their Demontre is a blend of old vine Grenache 80% and 20% Cariñena planted on granitic sand and clay. The grapes are gently crushed and fermented in stainless steel vats using their natural yeasts, no sulphur is added and the wine is not filtered or fined producing a delicate cherry nose and palate with hints of wild herbs, minerals and perky fresh acidity gives balance and complexity to this interesting natural, savoury wine.
