Mâcon-Villages Clos Saint Pancras 2018 Domaine Franz Chagnoleau
This excellent Macon Villages comes from a steep east facing organically farmed vineyard with stony chalky soils, Saint Pancras is the patron saint of Vignerons
This exciting new Domaine was started in 2010 by Franz Chagnoleau and his wife Caroline Gon who met studying Oenology in Bordeaux; he went on to be cellar manager at Domaine Olivier Merlin and she worked at Newton Vineyard in California and now runs Dominic Lafon's winery Mâcon. This excellent Macon Villages comes from a very steep east facing organically farmed vineyard with stony chalky soils, above the village of Saint Aubain east of Clessé, Saint Pancras is the patron saint of Vignerons and i'm sure many vineyard workers here have taken his name in vain! Fermented with its natural yeasts and then aged for 9 months in a mix of old oak casks and cuves. Fresh and vibrant with lovely red apple fruit peach and brioche notes with a mineral core and real length, delicious white Burgundy and a Domaine to follow.
