The Torre de Oña is a new Reserva from the famous old La Rioja Alta company. Back in 1995 they started looking for vineyards in the Rioja Alavesa, the Basque region to the east of Rioja. In 2005 they purchased the Finca Saint Martin estate and began replanting and building a new winery and the first wines were released in 2012. Unlike their traditional Rioja Alta wines which are aged in for three years in old American oak these are aged in new French and Caucasian oak for 18 months giving a real point of difference with a fresher, darker fruited style.
