Trigone by La Soula No.19 Rouge Vin de France
The medium bodied, dark fruited, Trigone is unusually a blend of three vintages, for the No. 19, 34% is from the 2019 vintage, 18% the 2018 vintage and 48% 2017
Domaine Le Soula, situated high up in the wilds of Roussillon’s Côtes Catalanes, was created in 2001 by Gérard Gauby, the famed Roussillon winemaker, in a joint venture with his then UK agents wine merchants Roy Richards and Mark Walford. When Roy and Mark sold their UK business Mark took over the management of Le Soula helped by talented Wendy Wilson.
La Soula, now recognized as one of the finest estates in the Roussillon, has 22 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines spread over various sites between 350 to 600m, this altitude and proximity to the Pyrenees is vital, promoting fresher and lower alcohol wines.
The medium bodied, dark fruited, Trigone is unusually a blend of three vintages, for the No. 19, 34% is from the 2019 vintage, 18% the 2018 vintage and 48% 2017. Give this time in a decanter and it really blossoms, showing its depth and length.
Each year 53% Syrah, 41% Carignan and 6% Grenache are vinified separately. The whole bunches are fermented in oak and tanks with their naturally occurring yeasts for 8-12 days before aging separately in neutral 500l oak barrels and 3000l oak tanks, depending on the vintage between 4-30 months. The final blend is bottled the following March.
