Two Rivers Amphitheatre Syrah 2018
This micro terroir sun trap situated at the top of The Brookby Hill amphtheatre like Vineyardvallows the ripening of the small berried thick skinned Syrah normally tricky so far south.
This really interesting Syrah comes from the warmest site on David Clouston's Amphitheatre like Brookby Hill vineyard, in the cool high lying Southern Valleys region of central Marlborough. This micro terroir sun trap allows the ripening of the small berried thick skinned Syrah normally tricky this so far south. The fruit was mostly destemmed though 30% whole bunch clusters were used and fermented in an open top tank and a clay amphora. The wine was then lightly pressed into 25% new and seasoned French oak barrels and aged for 11 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Classic blueberry and mineral wrapped mulberries on the nose, this perky fresh Syrah has ripe tannins and a silky dark fruited finish. Drinking well but would be interesting to cellar some too.
